Desmond's Birthday

This is the first catch up post.

Desmond had three birthday parties in October. You've got to do it up for your first birthday, right? The first was at Aunt Patty and Uncle Kendall's.

The second was a joint birthday party with his cousins Devin and Ethan in LA.

Desmond cried and refused to eat his cake when everyone sang to him. Poor little muggle.

Doing that thing he does with Uncle James.

Wrestling with grandma.

Then his final birthday party was at the Berkeley Aquatic Park.

Joe and Mini were there.

Jessie, Caleb and Izzy made a surprise drive by appearance.

David, Brendan and Amber saved daddy's life by loaning him a jacket.

Mary and Michael brought the British flavor.

There were balloons!

And Heather and Myles represented Oakland...until Myles threw up all over mommy and had to go home.

And the day finally ended with lots of presents...but the DVD player was the hit for the evening. Go figure.

Happy birthday, little Desmoid!

McNear's Beach

At the end of August we had a picnic at McNear's Beach with the fam (Patty, Kendal, Miye, Ryan and Elizabeth). Desmond, always the Renaissance man, developed new interests in jellyfish, shiny bike helmets and clear plastic plates.

Seussical

Kendra, Gage and Scout came to visit in mid-August. We went to play in the park, ate at a yummy Cambodian restaurant for dinner, then left Ron and Desmond at home to go see an evening showing of Seussical in Joaquin Miller Park. We did not dress correctly - it was freezing! Luckily Kendra had bags of old clothes she was planning to take to Goodwill in the trunk of her car. We layered on lots of clothing and laughed hysterically at how stupid we looked. (Why did I not take pictures??!!) Poor Gage was so embarrassed to be seen with us silly females. But in the end, we were relatively warm, and I think Scout and Gage enjoyed the show.

I Want To Ride My Bicycle

On a trip to the park in early July, Desmond got to try out his friend Sophia's tricycle. It was a very fancy one, and he love love loved it. (He may not look especially thrilled in the photos, but that's just because riding one's first tricycle takes a good deal of concentrated effort, as well as an occasional handlebar gnawing.)

Sophia's mom Julie was even kind enough to videotape the momentous occasion for posterity.

Bad! Bad! Bad!

We've been bad parents. It's been nearly a month since we last posted anything to this blog. This is not fair to you, as you have missed out on some truly fabulous moments in the life of Desmond. But never fear, I shall catch you up! I hereby swear to post for the next 10 days straight, sharing with you exciting moments involving such things as teeth, lakes, camping trips, toilet paper, swings, toothbrushes, boxes, baths, rock climbing, tricycles, solid foods... and so much more! Hang onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen! Away we go!

Bringing The Cuteness

Desmond loooves grass. The grass around here is full of Canadian Goose poop (ew), but this grass at Pixie Woods - a kiddie amusement park in Stockton, CA - was fresh and clean.
Desmond tolerates the park swing. he likes watching the other kids swing more than he actually likes doing the swinging.
Crawl. Pose. Repeat. Seriously, could he get any cuter?

Cute Overload

Nothing new to report - so I present you with evidence of Desmond's latest cuteness.

Funny face
Mmmm, sweet potatoes.
Just 'cause it's in your mouth doesn't make it polite.
Sweet potato stuporMmmm, blanket.
