Video Ketchup

When last we saw our little hero, he was just starting to eat cereal and had the pre-crawl blues. This first video is right after that time. He was about 6 months old and liked to be stood up in his crib...sort of.

He also had a favorite trick that he liked to play in his crib.

Finally, the pre-crawl blues gave way to an obsession to find shoes. SHOES!

At this point we thought he was going to remain horizontal for the rest of his life. We were sooo wrong. This is one of his first vertical moments.

Iz So Cute U Gonna Die

One of Desmond's favorite games is to stand in his crib and try to grab the mobile. For this game, I put pillows all around the inside of the crib, because he thinks it's a gas to fall onto a soft pillow while reaching for the mobile. He does not seem to enjoy falling and cracking his head against the crib rails. Go figure.
The boy is obsessed with laundry. He is inexplicably drawn to laundry piles. I threw this laundry on him, thinking it would please him. It did.
Yay, Daddy's home!

5 Months, Still Cute

Desmond is more like a real boy every day. I can't get over how much he's changing.
On hands and knees - getting ready to crawl away?
(This is not the position one should assume on a changing table, by the way.)
Contentedly imitating a beaver.
A new, wondrous toy. He LOVES the exersaucer (thanks Shaina!)

New Trick

Desmond has found his feet! Well, his left foot, anyway.
It's down there somewhere...
Almost...
Got it!
Ha! Beat that, mini sock monkey!

(Oh, and please note the awesome hand-knit blanket in the last picture. Catlin made it. Desmond loves it! Thanks Auntie Catlin, you're the best!)

In this ancient video Desmond takes on a wooly mammoth!

Baby Containers

Once you have a baby you realize you need an assortment of items to put them in. You need to experiment, because babies will be fond of certain containers and will hate others. For example, we tried getting Des a "bouncer" (a vibrating seat) on the advice of other parents, but he hated it. Here are some of the things he manages to put up with, though if he had his way, he would be held 24/7.
Swaddled and strapped into his swing (thanks Aunt Jana!)
Asleep in the car seat (This is rare -- generally he screams in his car seat until it's in the car and we've been driving for a few minutes)
Asleep in his crib, cozy under Aunt Elaine's blanket (also rare -- he much prefers to sleep on Dad's chest)
